چکیده

The highest energy cosmic rays, above the Greisen–Zatsepin–Kuzmin cut-off of cosmic ray spectrum, may be produced in decays of superheavy long-living X-particles. We conjecture that these particles may be produced naturally in the early Universe from vacuum fluctuations during inflation and may constitute a considerable fraction of Cold Dark Matter. We predict a new cut-off in the UHE cosmic ray spectrum Ecut−off < minflaton ≈ 10 GeV, the exact position of the cut-off and the shape of the cosmic ray spectrum beyond the GZK cut-off being determined by the QCD quark/gluon fragmentation. The Pierre Auger Project installation might discover this phenomenon. Two processes of matter creation after inflation: 1) gravitational creation of superheavy (quasi)stable particles, and 2) non-thermal phase transitions leading to formation of topological defects, may be relevant to the resolution of the puzzle of cosmic rays observed with energies beyond GZK cut-off. Both possibilities are reviewed in this talk.

Ultra - High Energy Cosmic Rays : a Window to Post - Inflationary Reheating Epoch of the Universe ?

We conjecture that the highest energy cosmic rays, E > E GZK , where E GZK ∼ 5 · 10 19 eV is the Greisen–Zatsepin–Kuzmin cutoff energy of cosmic ray spectrum, may provide a unique window into the very early epoch of the Universe, namely, that of reheating after inflation, provided these cosmic rays are due to decays of parent superheavy long-living X-particles. These particles may constitute a ...

Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays from Cosmological Relics

The current status of origin of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR) is reviewed, with emphasis given to elementary particle solutions to UHECR problem, namely to Topological Defects and Super-Heavy Dark Matter (SHDM) particles. The relic superheavy particles are very efficiently produced at inflation. Being protected by gauge discrete symmetries, they can be long lived. They are clustering in...

Superheavy Dark Matter and Thermal Inflation

The thermal inflation is the most plausible mechanism that solves the cosmological moduli problem naturally. We discuss relic abundance of superheavy particle X in the presence of the thermal inflation assuming that its lifetime is longer than the age of the universe, and show that the long-lived particle X of mass 1012–1014 GeV may form a part of the dark matter in the present universe in a wi...

Anisotropy of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays in the Halo Models

The harmonic analysis of anisotropy of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays is performed for the halo model. In this model the relic superheavy particles comprise the part of Dark Matter and are concentrated in the Galactic halo. The Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays are produced at the decays of these particles. Anisotropy is caused by asymmetric position of the Sun in the Galactic halo. The maximum anis...
